In just a few short weeks, spring will be here. Even though this winter has been fairly mild, it’s important to do a little routine maintenance to make sure your car will be ready for spring and summer road trips or just the day-to-day of going to work or shuffling the kids off to soccer practice. With these handy tips, your car will be ready for all of it. Here they are:
1. Wash your car’s undercarriage.
Even though we haven’t had much snow this winter, the salt used on the roads can have devastating consequences for your car’s underbody. Rust and corrosion can wreak havoc on everything your car needs to function. A trip to the car wash is all you need to ensure your car will be ready for warm weather — just verify that the wash option you select has undercarriage cleaning included.
2. Give your car a thorough cleaning.
Along with the undercarriage, wash the rest of your car from top to bottom, inside and out. You can take care of this step when you get the car’s undercarriage clean!
3. Replace your wiper blades.
Replace your wiper blades so they can effectively wipe away spring showers. Other drivers will thank you for being able to see.
4. Check the tire pressure.
If your tires are running low on air, fill them up to the proper pressure. If you’re unsure of how much your tires need, check the owner’s manual. The right tire pressure will save your car from needless wear and tear, and it will save you money by upping your car’s gas mileage.
5. Top off fluids if needed.
Check your antifreeze, oil, transmission fluid, washer fluid, and any other reservoir that your car needs to run. If they need to be replaced, top them off. Also, check for any leaks, and if you notice any, bring your car to a qualified mechanic for a diagnosis.
